DWIGHT A. BOYKINS
Democratic politician, City Council Member in Texas
Houston Council Member Dwight A. Boykins is passionate about strengthening his district and improving the lives of the people he serves. Councilman Boykins is a strong advocate for economic growth and promotes efforts to guarantee a fair and level playing field.
A graduate of Texas Southern University’s Jesse H. Jones School of Business in 1994, Councilman Boykins currently serves as Chairman of the Ethics, Elections and Council Governance Committee. He also sits on the Transportation, Technology and Infrastructure Committee, and the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee. In addition, Mr. Boykins served on the Houston Rebuild Oversight Committee, which helped to create Rebuild Houston, the city’s initiative to improve the quality of life and mobility for residents by enhancing Houston’s drainage and street infrastructure.
Councilman Boykins cares deeply about seniors and supports them through creating a non-profit organization that makes minor home repairs at no cost to the seniors in District D. He is also passionate about giving individuals who have made mistakes in their past – non-violent convicted felons – a second chance by holding a 2nd Chance Job Fair, providing work opportunities to those who might otherwise be overlooked.
Boykins is committed to creating pathways of success for students and each year welcomes them to participate in his internship program. Former interns include TSU student Kennard Jones, a current Student Regent on the TSU Board of Regents, and Andre Wagner, who has achieved success working helping to run local and national political campaigns.
Councilman Boykins is honored to represent the hard-working families of District D.
